Welcome to our second post on how to help your carpet and upholstery survive the Christmas season intact and more importantly helping you to enjoy a stress free holiday.
Spilt Drinks
If the kids get a carried away with Christmas excitement and juice and pop glasses go flying, resist the temptation to say oh nevermind its Christmas I’ll sort it out later, because the longer you leave it the bigger the problem could become later. Jump on it straight away, grab a cotton towel or kitchen towel, and blot the spill. Make sure you blot the spill and don’t rub, just to make sure, DON’T RUB, as this could damage the fibres and not be repairable. If the stain doesn’t come out completely with blotting, use a little datergent solution, ( some warm water in a bowl with a few drops of washing up liquid ), applied by means of a soft cloth, then use some clean water to rinse and then blot dry again.
Chocolate Fingers
Everyone loves chocolate at Christmas, in fact Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the box of chocolates been passed round, however when chocolate smudges into the carpet or sofa it can be a problem. Start by scraping off as much as possible with a blunt knife, apply some detergent solution and then tamp it with a soft brush. Tamping is the action of raising the brush and then letting it fall under its own weight to agitate the detergent solution. Finally rinse with clean water and blot dry.
